Knowing the different trenchless methods available can not only help you make a right decision but also save you money.
If you are like most people, you came across this article looking for information on trenchless sewer repairs and replacements. Here at Legendary Home Services we believe good decision-making derives from information. This is why our passion is providing information based on our many years of experience in the trenchless sewer industry. In this article, you will find information that will help you decide if trenchless is right for you.
Before considering a trenchless sewer repair, it is prudent to have a sewer camera inspection completed. What’s important about this camera inspection, is that the plumber (or whoever conducted your inspection) review the results of the video with you. Don’t just take their word for it. Often, here at Legendary Home Services, people will ask for us to provide them with a trenchless sewer replacement estimate, even though they have not viewed the condition of their own sewer line. While it is nice to place trust in people and service providers, it never hurts to garner a few extra opinions about the condition of your sewer line.
Getting a second opinion is not obtaining three estimates.
Many people will shop for service providers by getting three estimates. They review the three estimates and typically choose the contractor whose price was in the middle. Although getting a few estimates to compare pricing is always a good idea; obtaining different opinions regarding the condition of your drain can be the difference between spending $2500 or $10,000.
How is this so?
When discovering that you have a sewer issue and are facing possible replacement-If, you hire a contractor and ask for an estimate; many will give you just that. An estimate. Some contractors cannot help but provide customers with what they are requesting. Instead of providing a thorough evaluation for determining the sewers condition, the contractor will simply follow what you asked and provide a written estimate.
At Legendary Home Services, we provide sewer camera inspections on a daily basis. We see drain lines of all shapes, sizes, conditions, and circumstances. Through this experience, we have seen many property owners make decisions to replace their sewer lines without a second opinion. Consequently, many homeowners did not need a replacement or repair. A second opinion would have informed them of alternative options resulting in money savings.
Receiving an estimate from your second opinion is just fine. However, the point we are making is to understand the differences between the second opinion and second estimate.
A second opinion could reveal alternative trenchless options for you.
Does your sewer line need a repair, replacement, or rehabilitation?
If you have cast iron drains under your home that require repairs, a pipe lining trenchless technique may be most suitable for you. If you just have a root intrusion in your pipe, you may find that pipe coating is more feasible and less cost. If your main external drain needs a full replacement due to Orangeburg pipe or shifting of clay joints, you may benefit from pipe bursting.
What are the different trenchless sewer replacement options?
There are three primary methods of trenchless technologies. For an in-depth look at each, please visit our article here https://www.legendaryhs.com/trenchless-sewer-repair-pipe-lining-guide/
What is Pipe Lining?
Pipe lining is a trenchless technique that allows a new pipe to be created within your existing damage pipe. This is achieved by using a felt material that is saturated with epoxy resin. This resin is cured and leaves behind a completely new pipe within the damaged drain. This works great for cast iron drains that have holes, cracks, and missing pipe on the bottom. Pipe lining is extremely durable and can provide you with many years of trouble free use.
What is Pipe Bursting?
Pipe bursting is a trenchless technique that involves replacing your sewer line by “breaking” your old one and pulling a new pipe in its path. This method benefits property owners that have landscaping or hardscaping on their property. Your yard can be preserved and left untouched by taking advantage of pipe bursting.
What is Pipe Coating?
Pipe coating is a trenchless method that involves applying epoxy to the inside of a drain. If you have roots that penetrated your drain and resulted in a break, pipe coating can repair it, sealing up the damaged section without needing to excavate.
Each method of trenchless technology has benefits and limitations. We discuss these details in an article you can read here: https://www.legendaryhs.com/trenchless-sewer-repair-pipe-lining-guide/
