High water bill? Have a leak but can’t find the source? The slab leak detection experts in Scottsdale can pinpoint the leak for you.
An unexplained high water bill is the most common inclination of a concealed leak. Second to this would be a running water sound that never goes away. If you are experiencing these symptoms, it’s prudent to have leak detection services completed. When a leak develops under your slab, it’s important to act fast. Continuous running water will erode dirt under the slab and can induce foundation issues. Below are some of the most common questions from property owners about their slab leaks and leak detection services.
I just received an enormous water bill, how do I know if I have a slab leak?
A simple test will tell you if a leak exists. First, ensure that no water is running in the house. This includes laundry machines and dishwashers. Second, check to ensure your toilets are not running slowly. This can be achieved by adding food coloring to the water in the tank of your toilet. Add the dye to the water. Wait 15 minutes. If you see the dye in the toilet bowl, your toilet has a small leak. Toilet parts are easily repairable by heading to the hardware store and purchasing a toilet tank repair kit. Once you know your toilets are not running, head out to your water meter. Your water meter is typically located near the street or sidewalk. It will have a grey, green, brown, or metal color lid. Lift the lid and check the meter. Your water meter will have a dial that spins when water is running. If you have a digital water meter, the digits will increase as water is running. Not sure how the dial works? You can test the dial or digital movement by simply turning on your hose bib. Check the meter while water is running to understand the movement. Then, turn the water back off. With no water running in the home, if the water meter is moving, you have a leak.
What does Under Slab Leak Detection in Scottsdale Cost?
Leak detection prices can vary based on the source of leak and the time it takes to pinpoint. Most leak detection costs will range from $99.00 to $250.00.
When the leak is found, how does it get fixed?
Slab leaks can be repaired one of two ways. Either a direct access repair, or a water line re-route. Direct access repair would consist of jackhammer and demolition of the flooring and slab. Once the leak is exposed, it can be cut out and repaired. A water line re-route would consist of abandoning the leaking line under the slab, and installing a new water line from the water service supply to the fixture. A water line re-route is the preferred method of repair with most property owners. This is due to the less invasive method of re-routing versus demolition of their flooring and slab.
